Forced oscillation technique as a predictor of FEV1 improvement in asthma

The usefulness of the forced oscillation technique for untreated asthma is unclear. We assessed whether FOT could predict a 10% improvement in FEV1. Respiratory resistance at 5 Hz (R5) of the FOT was an improved parameter. In the multivariate analyses, the R5 independently predicted improvement. R5 assessed before treatment is a good predictor of an FEV1 improvement of 10%.
