•: Enhanced expression of a number of PLD genes in resistant Sinapis alba compared to Brassica juncea on challenge with Alternaria brassicicola.
•: Increase in PA level in S. alba compared to B. juncea on interaction with the pathogen.
•: B. juncea leaves kept on PA soaked filter paper did not show resistance.
•: Spraying B. juncea leaves with PA suspension showed resistance as well as enhanced expression of ABA responsive genes.
•: Temporal increase of PA level is associated with resistance against A. brassicicola.
