In this paper, we investigate for the first time the parametric amplification in photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) with a continuously-decreasing zero-dispersion wavelength along their length. The use of these tapered PCFs leads to the reduction of the length required for obtaining a high parametric gain. Simulation results show that although the gain is significantly increased in such tapered PCFs, the gain bandwidth is considerably decreased in comparison with that of un-tapered PCFs. Also, the flatness of the gain spectrum in such tapered PCFs is quickly decreased with the increase of the input pump power. A unique feature of the tapered PCFs is that their parametric gain spectrum exhibits no dependency on the pump wavelength which is in contrast to un-tapered PCFs. In addition, the saturation behavior of tapered PCFs is totally different from that of the un-tapered PCF.
