Meige’s syndrome’ is a type of cranial dystonia characterized by blepharospasm and orofacial-cervical dystonia. Blepharospasm is usually the first to appear which spreads to cranial and extracranial muscles. Meige’s syndrome may also be seen in Parkinson’s disease, atypical parkinsonism and familial essential tremor patients. The pathogenesis is similar to other focal dystonias characterized by abnormal plasticity and reduced cortical inhibition. Botulinum toxin is considered as treatment of choice and deep brain stimulation is used in refractory cases.
