Mitochondrial complex I subunit NDUFV3 occurs in short (S) and long (L) isoforms. Alternative splicing of vertebrate-specific NDUFV3-L transcript yields NDUFV3-S. NDUFV3-S and NDUFV3-L isoforms are expressed in a tissue-specific manner. Tissue-dependent NDUFV3 isoform distribution parallels substrate affinity changes.
