CAPEDP (compétences parentales et attachement dans la petite enfance : diminution des risques liés aux troubles de santé mentale et promotion de la résilience [parenting competencies and attachment in the early childhood: diminution of the health mental problems and promotion of resilience]) is an action research in perinatal prevention targeting young mothers who accept home-visiting support during pregnancy and up until their first child's second birthday. Participation is proposed at the maternity hospital to women presenting specific psychosocial vulnerability factors. The study aims to describe and assess the impact of a manualised mental health promotion programme. Particular attention is paid to promoting secure mother-child attachment and preventing maternal depression, a recognised obstacle to a healthy relationship between mother and baby, so essential for the child's developpement. In other situations, young parents may not have sufficient knowledge or support to develop effective parenting skills in this important and delicate period of the child's life. The article describes the work done with these families in the light of the theoretical foundations underpinning this approach.
