Methylmercury (MeHg) was lower in nitrate-rich versus nitrate-poor tributaries. Presence of nitrate in bottom water corresponded with lower MeHg. Above a threshold of oxygen equivalent, MeHg was negligible in bottom water. Bottom-water nitrate corresponded with lower Fe but not always lower Mn.
