•: UV absorbers UV-531 and BP-4 significantly improved the photostability of abscisic acid (ABA).
•: UV-531 and BP-4 had no significant difference to decrease the photodegradation of ABA.
•: Photostabilizer HS-770 did not significantly improve the effects of UV absorbers.
•: BP-4 was an efficient photostable agent for producing ABA compound due to its water soluble trait.
