A novel keratinase coding gene was mined via function-driven screening with fosmid library. The keratinase gene was successfully expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3). Recombinant keratinase with excellent tolerance towards various surfactants was purified and characterized. The enzyme displayed promising application potential in biodegradation of keratin wastes.
