Leucinol and valinol have been identified as efficient organocatalysts for the aldol reaction of isatin and its derivatives (as examples ofactivated, non-enolizable ketones) with acetone. Uncommon mechanistic features were observed and used in the formulation of the transitionstate of the reaction.
