Reaction of [Cr(⁶-C₆H₅Li)₂]·tmen with (RR')NBCl₂ (R = R' = SiMe₃; R = R' = iPr; R = SiMe₃, R' =tBu) and B₂Br₂(NMe₂)₂, respectively, in hexane yieldedthe strained [1]borachromoarenophanes [Cr{(⁶-C₆H₅)₂BNRR'}] (4a-c; R = R' = SiMe₃; R = R' = iPr; R =SiMe₃, R' = tBu) and [2]borachromoarenophanes [Cr{(⁶-C₆H₅)₂(BNMe₂)₂}] (5), respectively, in moderateyields as dark red solids; compounds 4c and 5 werestructurally characterized. 4c exhibits the largest arene-arene tilt angle (26.6(3)) reported for any [n]metalloarenophane.
