The case presented concerns the sudden death of a 16-year-old boy who 2- days previously had suffered from a seasonal influenza infection. At autopsy and using additional tests an acute H1N1 (“swine flu- infection was diagnosed by histological and virological tests. As an incidental finding structural changes in the heart were additionally identified. The subsequent molecular pathological examinations revealed a mutation in the SCN5A gene, a region typical for Brugada syndrome, which has not been described in the literature before.
