Sobaity sea bream (Sparidentex hasta) is distributed in the Western Indian Ocean, Persian Gulf and Oman Sea. For monitoring health status in this species in an aquaculture condition, standard reference values for haematological and plasma biochemical parameters are indispensable. Heparinized blood samples were collected from 143 healthy sobaity sea bream juveniles raised in cylindrical polyethylene tanks with filtered running seawater. Haematologic reference intervals were as follows: red blood cell (RBC) count 1.67-.2?×-06 μL?, total white blood cell (WBC) count 8.8-4.5?×-03 μL?, lymphocytes 85-6 %, neutrophils 2- %, haemoglobin 28-0 g L?, haematocrit (Hct) 24.5-3.8 %, mean cell volume (MCV) 126.3-91.7 fL, mean cell haemoglobin (MCH) 14.4-6.5 pg, mean cell haemoglobin concentration (MCHC) 92-80 g L?, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) 1.5- mm h? and RBC/WBC ratio 119.2-07.5. Plasma chemistry reference intervals were as follows: total protein 3.2-.9 g dL?, albumin 0.3-.58 g dL?, globulin 2.7-.4 g dL?, alkaline phosphatase 444-66 U L?, alanine aminotransferase 239-06.5 U L?, lipase 95.5-20 U L?, amylase 4- U L?, sodium 173-11 mmol L?, chloride 103-36.5 mmol L?, potassium 2.7-.4 mmol L?, calcium 2.6-.1 mmol L?, inorganic phosphorus 2.9-.3 mmol L?, osmolality 430-03 mOsm kg?, glucose 6.16-.88 mmol L?, cholesterol 4.07-.7 mmol L?, triglyceride 2.22-.91 mmol L?, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) 1.36-.44 mmol L?, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) 0.84-.19 mmol L? and very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) 0.27-.78 mmol L?. Values reported here will be useful for evaluating the health status, interpretation and better understanding of various disease signs in sobaity sea bream juveniles.
