The internal workingmodel on attachment dimensionschanges with significant emotionalexperiences. The purpose of thisstudy was to evaluate if and howthe internal working models correlatewith primary headaches.Attachment dimensions of subjectssuffering from primary headacheswere studied. One hundred andfourteen subjects [68 withmigraine, 23 with tension–typeheadache (according to ICHD–I criteria),23 with chronic dailyheadache (according toSilberstein’s criteria)], were studiedand compared with a control groupof 57 subjects (matched in sex, ageand social level) not suffering fromany primary headache. Attachmentdimensions were investigated usingthe Adult AttachmentQuestionnaire (AAQ) and theAttachment Style Questionnaire(ASQ). Headache sufferers seem tobe characterised by attachmentstyles of the ȁc;insecure” type. Inparticular they seem to feelextremely ill at ease if there is anexpectation of reduction of interpersonaldistance.
