Dispersions of silver nanoparticles in heptane are investigated by means of photon correlation spectroscopy following the dilution of an electrophoretic concentrate obtained from AOT reverse micelle solution. The conditions for preparing stable dispersions with constant hydrodynamic radii of the particles (20 nm) and thicknesses of absorption layers (6 nm) are described. It is found that they luminesce (λmax = 300 nm) upon excitation with 230-70 nm radiation. The concentration dependence is valid for (0.4-.4) × 10? M Ag. The yield of luminescence quanta is 0.066. The lifetime of the excited state, estimated using the Stern-Volmer equation, is 10 ns.
