When there are multiple openings with different heights in fire rooms after flashover, the spill flame acquires relatively high initial momentum due to strong buoyancy force compared to that in a fire room with only a single opening. The high initial momentum can influence the shapes of spill flame plume to a large extent. However, the characteristic of spill flame plume projecting from a compartment with dual openings have not been fully studied so far. In present study, a total of 20 experiments were carried out in a 1/3 scale dual openings compartment with different opening geometries and heat release rates to investigate the thermal buoyancy force effect on the projecting flame from the window after flashover. Based on the theoretical analysis, two characteristic lengths were proposed to represent the buoyancy force after flashover in the compartment. Results show that the spill flame height and width were proportional to 1.65 and 0.48 power of the heat release rate of the spill fire plume, respectively. In addition, the relationship between the periodic oscillation (about 0.8 Hz) of spill flame and the geometry of the compartment opening was analyzed.
