A beta spectrometer composed of a solid BC-400 type plastic scintillation detector was designed to select the original beta particles from the electronic noise in the low-energy part of the 14C beta spectrum by means of a timing discrimination method. Efficient selection of the beta particles in the noise band was achieved.
